Particularly in the UK and across the European Union, immigration is a hot political issue. Anti-immigrant parties have recently performed strongly in the European Parliamentary Elections. The far-right Front National came out on top in France, with around a quarter of the popular vote. This and the rise on social media of the Britain First party has ensured that immigration remains at the top of the political conversation. This topic appears so high up this list because everyone has an opinion on it. The strong performance of the United Kingdom Independence Party at a number of recent elections, via a platform critical of mass immigration, suggests that many British citizens are concerned about the potentially negative effects of unrestricted immigration into the country. The omnipresence of this issue in political debate means that it is something that is guaranteed to provoke a heated and spirited discussion in just about any situation.
