10 Terrible Role Models In Stephen King Books

4. Mother Abigail In The Stand

Biggest Crime Committed: Manipulating desperate individuals to do "God's work". Don't start protesting: obviously Mother Abigail's intentions are kind. And she does do some good in magically drawing all the 'goodies' to her place while evil guy Flagg draws all the 'baddies' to him (convenient, right?) But, Mother Abigail seems to have selective memory, making it hard for the characters to truly understand what she wants. Abigail receives visions from God, though when she sins due to pride, she loses her foresight and goes into exile in the wilderness - completely unhelpful, when she's got so many people relying on her. And then, on her deathbed, she shares one final vision: four men from the committee are to travel to the West coast to confront Flagg. She makes no prediction as to what will occur, only that one will fall before arriving in Las Vegas, while the remainder will be brought before Flagg. And then she dies. So unhelpful, Mother Abigail.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
