10. Oily Men

The Orang Minyak, or €˜Oily Man€™ is a particularly nasty specimen. Said to be Human in appearance, except that he is naked and covered from head to toe in black oil, the Minyak is probably a perfect (and extremely disturbing) case of a myth transitioning into reality and, in the process, actually hurting people. It began as a Malaysian folk tale, or €˜ghost myth€™. In early versions of the story, The Orang Minyak was an ordinary Human being who was heartbroken after the love of his life left him. He turned to dark magic in a desperate attempt to win her back and ended up becoming the accursed creature now fearfully discussed in hushed whispers throughout Malaysia. Granted mastery over the black arts (in Westernized versions, this is accomplished via a Faustian pact, whereas in more traditional versions, he is sometimes controlled by a corrupt tribal shaman), The Oily Man now has to rape women regularly (in one version, he must rape 21 virgins every week) in order to survive. Sadly, The Orang Minyak is likely to be all too real, albeit not supernatural in any way. It appears that perverts in Malaysia may be covering themselves in oil in order to perpetrate sexual assaults on local women and then escape unfettered, because, as any cryptozoologist will tell you, it is very hard to catch a mythological figure... In 2005, a nurse in Kuala Lumpur was found naked and bound in the hospital where she worked. Fortunately, a security guard arrived in time to rescue her, but this attack (and others like it) was reported as an Orang Minyak sighting by many. She described a naked man covered in oil, who had threatened her with a knife and then tied her up, before her terrified screams had alerted the guard. Stories of these €˜Oily Men€™ are abundant throughout Malaysia, which seems to point to a deeply distressing trend whereby degenerate sex offenders could be hiding behind folklore and superstition in order to cause harm to innocent women. Of all the creatures we€™ve written about on this list, these men, if they really are doing such things, are by far the most disgusting and genuinely evil.
