Oxford castle is widely considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in England, owing to it's long and illustrious history of imprisonment, torture and executions. Over the years the castle has been used as a jail, gallows, military installation, residence of royalty, and a modern prison. It's current form stands as a luxury hotel as part of the Malmaison chain. The castle has been standing in one form or another for nearly 1000 years now, and has seen the deaths of many people within it's walls. It's unsurprising then, that it is now home to ghosts, spirits, poltergeists and all manner of terrifyingly unexplainable business. One of the most famous examples of the power within the castle walls occured in the 1970s. A group of ghost hunters were carrying out a seance in one of the cells in the building (back when it was HM Prison Oxford) when a poltergeist of such power and ferocity started to make itself known. The activity became so bad and powerful that the prison's priest actually had to be called in to perform an exorcism and banish whatever it was that the group had awoken.
