10 Most Terrifying Places In England

1. The Schooner Hotel, Alnmouth

When the Paranormal Society names your hotel "The Most Haunted Hotel In England", you know that you definitely need to call the Ghostbusters. The Schooner Hotel in Alnmouth, Northumberland has recorded over 3000 separate incidents of paranormal activity over the years, with at least 60 individual entities stalking it's corridors. Every single guest room in the building has recorded hauntings of some description, from unexplained noises to full figures appearing above people, this hotel has everything. The Schooner's history involves every dirty deed you could possibly imagine: sex, violence, murder, suicide, piracy and anything else you wouldn't want to be involved with. As a result, the hauntings reflect disturbing and distressing incidents, particularly around Room 28, which is believed to be the centre point for all of the spectral behaviour in hotel. Guests in 28 have reported the sounds of screams, wails, crying, yelling; as well as the sight of shadowy figures and an overwhelming sense of dread and fear coupled with an seemingly oppressive atmosphere. The most vivid story to come from the hotel though, involves two members of staff going about their business, when they both witnessed a dark figure bolt out of Room 20 and start banging on the fire exit as if he himself was scared and was trying to run away. As the members of staff turned to run, the figure span around, stared directly through them and bolted in their direction. To say the staff members were shaken would be an understatement, the rest of the staff were forced to conduct a thorough search of the hotel to prove to them that no one else was there. Acorah say: Sod this, no way in hell, that's it, I'm off to do Strictly.
