This may come as an anticlimax for you as having three lions as the top suggestion for the new £1 coin but there's valid reasoning behind it. The three lions passant guardant are the ultimate symbolism of Britain as seen on the Royal Arms of England which in layman's terms is the country's coat of arms. The lion traditionally represents valour, strength, bravery and in England's case; royalty. It has encompassed this country's values for over 900 years and has recently been the face of many popular brands from the Barclay's Premier League logo to the official England football team. It doesn't just stop at football though, the England Commonwealth Games squad used the lion for its branding as did Team GB during the Olympics whilst not forgetting the England Cricket Board's logo. The lion has become a household image that we all see and associate with Britain, but more importantly something we can easily relate to as easily as the United States of America can relate to an eagle. Why? Above all the other candidates, this one shines through as a possible icon to put on the new £1 coin, simply because it doesn't single anyone out, it doesn't mock any traditional values, it doesn't encourage bad behaviour and that it does however sum up the country itself in a single icon; the mighty lion. If there are any symbols or other things you would like to see on the new £1 coin then go ahead and comment below to share it with us.
