5. 'Well I Read This On The Apple Support Communities So It Must Be True'

Genius Bar employees form different types of customers inside their heads and can see these people as soon as they start talking to a customer. The worst of the types are the people who think they know more than then employee because they read the Apple Support Communities pages on the company website. The great thing about the communities website is that when people finally decide to search the internet for themselves, some of the top hits will be Apple's forum sites where people with your exact same problem sit and chat it all out. Sometimes they're really useful and Apple handily points out some of the most useful posts, but sometimes they're a complete and utter nightmare for the store's technicians. For example, someone may think they have an issue with their iPhone screen, it may not be responding properly when they presses it and sometimes it may freeze. To a Genius Bar technician these could be two completely different things, the lack of responsiveness could be an issue with the touch screen and would need a screen replacement whereas the phone freezing may be a minor bug error, which can be resolved with system wipe. But once someone has seen that SoccerMom101 and Androidlover69 has also had an issue with their iPhone's screen and thier solution was a replacement screen, they demand the same and refuse to accept that they may have another issue with their phone. So while most people love Apple Support Communities, it sometimes causes a headache for the tech giant's staff.
