10 Things Only Apple Genius Bar Employees Will Understand

3. They Really Can't Guess Your Password

One of the biggest headaches Apple Store employees have is when someone forgets their password or doesn't know their Apple ID. Many people come in needing help with a device but don€™t know their Apple ID or password, which throws a wrench in the process. Customers sometimes assume that Apple, in its technological superiority, stores all the passwords for all its customers on a database somewhere so that when someone forgets they can just go into the nearest Apple Store and get it changed. The answer is and always will be, no, no and no. There's a very good reason in that Apple would probably be breaking some laws if they did, it's your personal information, not Apple's. That goes for passcode locks too, if you've forgotten your passcode then unfortunately all the data has to be wiped and the phone has to be restored from scratch again before it can be used. This really throws a spanner in the works if you wanted your iPhone replaced as if you use iCloud, the 'Find My iPhone' setting must be turned off before any repairs can be done. If you don't know it, it can kick-off a password-reset related nightmare into overdrive. In future, just check you know your password, your mother's maiden name and your first school teacher's first name and you'll be sorted.
