10 Things That Are Seriously Messing With Your Zen

9. Wanting To Please Everyone

Fact: Being liked is, like, totally awesome. Nothing quite compares to being on the receiving end of even a spontaneously friendly " g'morning" - cue that warm, fuzzy feeling which insta-transforms our smile from Cruella de Ville rictus into Meg Ryan sweetness.

Being the subject of such good vibes is bloody addictive, which is why most of us would rather cut off our right arm than knowingly offend someone.

And which is also why the interwebz is crawling with pages like this.

Cultivating a nice persona – for which read kindness, empathy and tolerance – is perfectly fine. Curating your behaviour with the sole purpose of pleasing others, on the other hand, is plain cray-cray.

By doing this you run the risk of coming off as not exactly genuine. Unfortunately, most people can spot a fake a mile away, which means that they won’t like you for long anyway.

Moral: Don’t modify your personality or behaviour to reflect the desires of others. We’re not encouraging Hannibal Lecter levels of sociopathy here; just being true to yourself should do it.
