10 Things You Didn't Know About Joe Rogan

2. He Nearly Fought In The UFC

Though his experience in competitive striking martial arts made him a perfect candidate for the burgeoning sport of MMA, Rogan had already retired from combat sports by the time the UFC had held its first event in 1993.

Despite not turning his talents to becoming a professional fighter, Rogan did land a job with the organisation, initially working as a backstage interviewer before securing his more familiar role as a colour commentator for the company. However, at one time it appeared that the Bostonian would be set to make his MMA debut in a celebrity showdown with Blade star Wesley Snipes.

Joe explained on the JRE that the idea has been floated to him after rumours had emerged that Snipes was looking for a way to generate money during his struggles with the IRS. Rogan accepted the bout, later stating that he believed Snipes' total lack of grappling experience would have made the fight relatively easy for the then-BJJ brown belt.

Ultimately though, Snipes' would change his mind, nixing the bout, and robbing fans of the chance to see Rogan's missile-like turning sidekicks in the Octagon.
