JonBenét Patricia Ramsey was a child beauty pageant queen who was found murdered in her Boulder home in 1996. Ramsey's body was found in her family home's basement, just eight hours after her missing report. Ramsey's death was found to be caused by strangulation and a beating to the back of the head. Initially, suspicion was directed towards members of Ramsey's family, mainly due to the body's location in the basement. However, they were exonerated after DNA from the six-year-old's clothing indicated that they were not involved. In 2013, court documents were released that showed a Colorado grand jury had voted to indict the family members of the murder, on charges of being accessories to murder and child abuse. However, District Attorney Alex Hunter chose not to sign the indictment, citing insufficient evidence. Beyond the family member's exoneration, very few leads have been found related to the case.
