In 2014, the world was shocked to learn that a Boeing 777 had seemingly vanished into thin air without a trace. Flight MH370 had taken off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia with the intended destination being Beijing Capital International Airport. 38 minutes into the flight, the plane disappeared from radar screens and seemingly vanished into thin air with 227 passengers and 12 crew members along with it.

The largest search effort in aviation history was then mounted, with investigators being led to believe the plane was somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean. After over four full years of searching, the search ended with the plane still missing, except for small pieces of debris washing up in Madagascar.

In early 2022, a new possible location was determined by retired aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey, who proposed that by analysing radio waves, the mystery could be solved. Godfrey investigated the idea that as the plane travelled through the air it caused disturbances to radio waves of radio operators, thus acting as a sort of trip wire every time it passed through them.

Using this data, Godfrey was able to plot what he believed to be the final resting place of Flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean. Sadly, until the search is restarted we will never know if Richard has in fact solved the mystery, but it once again gives us hope that MH370 will be found one day.
