10 Weirdest Celebrity Lawsuits

7. Bill Smith VS. Dead Elvis

In the late 80s, a Texas record producer and promoter sued Elvis Presley€™s Estate claiming that it had interfered with the promotion of his book entitled Memphis Mystery (Requiem for Elvis). He argued that the Elvis Estate's pesky claims that Elvis had died in 1977 were really getting in the way of the promotion of his book, which relied heavily on the premise that he was in fact, not dead. Bill Smith claimed to speak to Elvis on the phone on a regular basis, and that the estate were flagrantly lying to the public. He would also provide tapes which he claimed were recordings of Elvis after he had allegedly died. Needless to say, Smith lost the case, but he did continue to publish his book, Elvis Lives, which was not a resounding success.
