Best known as an ironic cult figure, the only reason Ed Wood is remembered at all is because people hate-watch his so-bad-it's-good B-movie Plan 9 From Outer Space. Or love-watch the Tim Burton biopic encouraged by the cult, starring Johnny Depp as the filmmaker who apparently used to cross-dress in between directing truly dreadful movies. Despite inspiring nothing more than disdain whilst he was alive seriously, his low-budget films were really, really terrible after his death Wood has somehow not only built up a cult following for his work, but the man himself inspired a whole church. The Church Of Ed Wood, as it is so literally named. The religion of Woodism treats the director as a saviour, and aims to bring spirituality to those those who fail to locate it in regular, run-of-the-mill religions. Mainly by consuming pop culture. Believers uphold Wood's tenants of understanding and accepting everybody, no matter what clothes they like to wear or what crappy films they like watching.
