11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly

9. Jacob€™s Well - USA

It looks like the doorway to another world and, to be fair, if you underestimate it then I could well be just that.

Jacob's Well is a spring located in the Texas Hill Country and a popular swimming spot for the locals. The sudden deep drop off makes an excellent divebomb target, but it is also the entrance to a series of caves that you definitely wouldn't want to get lost in. So far, at least nine people have lost their lives in the caves in recent memory.

It's thought that the network of underground caves reached via Jacob's Well extends around 4,500 feet (1,400 m) from the surface.

Professional cave divers have mapped the system, but the caves serve as a temptation to untrained open water divers. Often, people will enter an unexplored cave and become disorientated by the large amounts of silt that can be kicked up in there. They might also get stuck in the tiny entrances or succumb to the effects of nitrogen narcosis.

Lots of human skulls, bones and diving equipment have been recovered from the caves over the years.

Cause of death: Drowning.
