11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly
8. The Grand Canyon - USA

Keeping things Stateside for a bit, the Grand Canyon is surely one of the wonders of the world, but it's also deadly - and not just if you fall over the edge.
Whilst peering over the precipitous edge might look like the most dangerous bit, most people will meet their doom within the canyon itself. Temperatures at the bottom can reach nearly 50°C (122°F) and heat exhaustion is a very real possibility for even well-prepared explorers.
On average, around 12 people a year will die at the Grand Canyon, and taking everything from suicides to plane crashes into account, it's thought that over 770 people have snuffed it there since the mid-1800s.
Canyon search and rescue perform around 300 rescue missions a year, most of them related to heat exhaustion. Due to the vast difference in temperature from the top to the bottom, most people are wholly unprepared for what awaits them as they descend into the oven-like depths.
Cause of death: Heat exhaustion.
