Something that scientists have to think carefully about when designing a spaceship is a process known as "cold welding".

In a vacuum, like in space, it is possible for two pieces of metal to weld together on contact without the application of any kind of heat. The effect doesn't occur naturally here on Earth, but it is sometimes used in manufacturing processes in an artificial vacuum.

This isn't something that the astronauts have to contend with all the time as their tools generally maintain a protective oxide layer, but it's still not the kind of thing you want to let slip your mind and end up welded to the outside of the space station. That could be embarrassing.
