11 Insane Military Inventions You Won't Believe

3. The Active Denial System

The Active Denial System, informally known as the 'heat ray,' is a non-lethal energy weapon developed by the United States military. The ADS is able to heat the surface of targets up to 700 metres away. Including human skin. Primarily designed to break up unruly crowds or riots in a non-lethal manner, being hit by the Active Denial System is said to be like having a hot light bulb pressed against the skin. The effects end as soon as the targets leave the beam. The ADS only left any sort of mark or skin damage on under 0.1% of test subjects, and most human subjects reached their pain threshold and had to pull away after only 3 seconds.
