11 Reasons Why Your Brain Is A Total Dick

7. It Makes You Think You're Ugly

The reason why you have to spend your Monday morning untagging Facebook photos is not because you're an ugly git, it's just because your brain thinks you are.

Even if you leave the house looking like the finest hot momma you ever saw, you'll probably spend a lot of your time wailing about how unphotogenic you are and telling them to take it again.

The reason for this is because you generally speaking only ever see yourself in the mirror. This means that you always see yourself head on and as a mirror image, so as far as your brain is concerned your face is on backwards compared to what everybody else sees.

This means that, whenever you see a photo of yourself with your features the opposite way round, your brain feels like there's something wrong with it, like it's in the uncanny valley.

This is also the reason why everyone else will be all "No, it's a nice one of you, I look awful though!". They aren't just trying to make you feel better, that's just what you look like to them and they're too concerned with their own distorted features to look at yours.

So why do people post endless photos of themselves if they're supposed to find them so hideous? Studies have shown that selfies may actually help to combat the mirrored face phenomenon. People who take a lot of selfies get used to looking at themselves "the right way round" and it can lead to a boost in self-confidence, so snap away.
