11 Terrifying Disney World Incidents
7. The Epcot Shotgun Attack
For most, Disney World is a place of peace and joy, a place where you go to forget your troubles rather than to try and work through them. On September 12th 1992, however, a thirty-seven year old man named Al Ferris proved to very much be the exception, entering Epcot carrying a shotgun after the park had closed.
Ferris fired multiple blasts at three guards, eventually taking two of them hostage. The terrified guards were held hostage in a rest room near the Journey Into Imagination pavilion.
The reason? Ferris wanted to speak to his ex-girlfriend who supposedly worked at the park. She had recently broken off their lengthy relationship, after which Ferris had attempted to slit his wrists. This prompted the ex-girlfriend to get a court order to keep Ferris away from her. Ferris then told his brother that he was heading to a wedding, but instead travelled to the park where he knew he might find her working.
Surrounded by police and aware that there was no way out, the man released his hostages and subsequently turned the gun on himself, committing suicide before he could be apprehended.
