11 Weirdest Beauty Contests Throughout The World

2. Miss Spring

Whoever said that women are the "fairer sex" clearly haven't met the contestants of the Miss Spring contest that takes place in the women's correctional facility UF 91/9 in Siberia. Unlike the ladies from the hit series "Orange Is The New Black" this is real life and, once a year, the women behind bars can beautify themselves for the Miss Spring contest. Of course, orange is not the only color one can use for a dress; a plethora of other materials and cloth to make garments. In this remote place, where regimen rules daily life with an iron fist, the beauty pageant offers a refreshing break. When it started in 1990, the women had scarce resources and had to use scrap materials from around the prison to make their outfits. The first winner in 1990 had made a dazzling dress from plastic bags. Nowadays, the ladies of UF 91/9 have all of the worldly luxuries at their disposal, including lipstick, decorative flowers and hair and makeup materials needed to perform the perfect form. Judges include guards and other staff from the prison. There's also a second and third place for the runner-ups. The contestants are encouraged for their good behaviour, and the winner of Miss Spring can earn early parole. Now that's what I call a good jail break.
