Back to the humans. Our species probably has some of the strangest customs and pageants one of them being the Armpit Beauty Queen Contest that takes place in Battle Mountain, Nevada. The theme is that to embrace the stink, you must also embrace your true self. It's a strange choice you can either have the underarms of a goddess, or you can participate in fun and wacky events like the sweaty T-shirt contests, deodorant throws, and quick-draw deodorant competition that leads to crowning of the Armpit Queen. Unfortunately, this fragrant contest has flagged and ceased in recent years; it was replaced with a Bluegrass Festival. The idea for the contest stemmed from a remark made by humour journalist Gene Weingarten, who writes for the Sunday Washington Post Magazine. Weingarten called Battle Mountain "the armpit of America" based on its "lack of character and charm." Well, the fair citizens of this quaint town raised quite a stink about the matter and now the Armpit Queen is hosted in Battle Mountain every summer. The citizens even got Old Spice deodorant to promote it for a while. Still, I have the feeling that the saying, "Home, sweet home" isn't applicable here.
