12 Horrifyingly Dark Tales Behind Your Favourite Disney Movies

There are a number of similarities between the 1991 Disney movie and Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve's 1790's book, but the most notable is the more sinister side to the 18th century tale.

After becoming homesick, the Beast allows Beauty to return to her family for one week. His two older and wicked sisters become jealous of how happy their sister is and of the fine clothes that the Beast has lavished her. The pair convince Beauty to stay longer than her agreed time in the hope that the Beast will become angry and kill her.

Using a magic mirror given to her by the Beast, she sees him dying from a broken heart so returns to him and weeps. Her love of him breaks the curse and they of course live happily ever after. Awww.
