12 Horrifyingly Dark Tales Behind Your Favourite Disney Movies
11. Sleeping Beauty
In the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora is awoken by the kiss of the Prince but in Giambattista Basile's version of the fairytale, kissing isn't what her suitor has in mind.
Talia (Sleeping Beauty) is in a long deep sleep caused by a splinter stuck in her finger. Beside himself with grief, her father believes she is dead and abandons their home, leaving the sleeping princess alone.
One day a passing King stops by and finds the sleeping Talia. After failing to wake her the King decides to rape her then leaves. Whilst still asleep Talia gives birth to twins, one of which sucks on her finger and removes the splinter causing her to wake.
The King comes back and discovers Talia alive and the pair fall in love. The King's current wife plots to cook the the twins and feed them to the King. When the King finds out, he burns his wife for betraying him.
A sort of happy ending... if you ignore the rape and child cooking.
