It's quite common that you might hear people proclaiming that they could drink all of their friends "under the table" - but you can bet your bottom-dollar that they wouldn't have been able to take on King Richard III in this department. Richard III is believed to have consumed at least one bottle of wine a day, plus a few pints of beer (albeit watered down), and it would have taken a serious number of units to get him mortal drunk. That demands a certain respect, surely?
