It might just be a specialised pattern in certain countries, or may well be a global phenomenon: the pet voice. Even if you don't own a pet yourself, chances are you've got a pet voice if you've ever been around a cute cat, dog, or any other creature in your whole entire life. It might not be the high-pitched squealing we most associate with what people might consider a 'pet voice', but just like how your voice modulates when you're near a newborn baby, chances are that when your beloved pet is snuggling into your side or slobbering over your palm, you unleash the 'pet voice'. Whenever you find yourself in a coffee shop or a deli or something, ready to order over the counter, try busting out the pet voice to order something. Yes, it'll be a disconcerting, but it's such an out-of-place, apropos usage of a specific voice that it'll be humorous long after you've left the establishment. Imagine ordering a sandwich in the same tone you employ whilst telling your dog that they're good. Yes, it's very silly, and very surprising, but walking out of there without breaking character or bursting into snorts of laughter is its own victory. For additional effect, get served in a supermarket and use the voice to say goodbye to the cashier who will be left shocked and amused. Comedy gold.
