10. Alongside Gordon Brown, Cameron Continually Said "I Agree With Nick (Clegg)" During The 2010 TV Debate... Something He Would Now Like To Pretend He Didn't
The 2010 General Election campaign saw a first in British politics - live televised TV debates, as seen for the previous forty-odd years in the USA. Then Prime Minister Gordon Brown (of the Labour Party) went up against Conservative leader Cameron and Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrats across three separate debates. In one of the most cringeworthy and embarrassing episodes in British political history, the leaders of the two biggest parties attempted to claw their way into the political centre-ground occupied by Clegg - including on several occasions by using such phrases as: "I agree with Nick". Clegg became the main story in the build-up to the 2010 election, with both the other leaders attempting to position themselves alongside him, and eventually Cameron then formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats. However, this time around Cameron is keen to distance himself from Clegg - trying to big up the successes of the Coalition as having been Conservative policies, while the failures as having been down to the Liberal Democrats. Clegg's popularity has bombed in the five years since 2010, primarily due to the Lib Dems' U-turn on university fees, and now no-one wants to position themselves alongside him. Unfortunately for Mr Cameron, everyone remembers one thing: He agrees with Nick.
