The internet is responsible for a great deal of things that have gone global, the majority of which are hilariously immature and mostly involve cats. It is also guilty for inventing a language used by net addicts the world over; one which is largely built upon a reliance on catchphrases. The favourite of the last couple of years is "that awkward moment when", which was slightly funny when it first appeared, for about four minutes; but what was born as an observation on social discomfort quickly grew into people adding the phrase to the beginning of statements that are most definitely not awkward. It now feels that whenever you witness someone posting a status beginning with the phrase, they have been sat, phone at the ready, waiting to tell the world when something tickles them ever so slightly. I like to imagine that these people find situations of awkwardness fine to deal with, but struggle with something as banal as going to work wearing a risque tie.
