Not that long ago, no one would have been able to tell you who Robin Thicke was. Guesses would have ranged from the guy next to you on the bus to Alan Thicke's son (nailed it!), depending on your level of celebrity indulgence. Not one word of hyperbole, I literally thought he was a woman for the first month or so that "Blurred Lines" was out because I'd never seen him, the singer was kind of high-voiced, and it was a gender-neutral name on the record. And I'm paid to keep up on these sorts of things. Well I, like the rest of the world, sure know who he is now. "Blurred Lines" was the jam of 2013, the song of the summer that you couldn't walk 30 feet without hearing in some way, shape or form. Add in the cleverly marketed #THICKE element of his racy, controversy-courting video that was full of tastefully nude models and drew mainstream debate as a result, and you have a recipe for one incredible year. Throw in his little show with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards and the guy was pretty much front and center for the entire middle portion of the calendar. 2013 was definitely good to him.
