An 18-year-old girl from Kyrgyzstan found out what it was like to be a cat the hard way.

When she began experiencing stomach cramps, loss of appetite and dramatic weight loss, doctors X-rayed her stomach to find out what was wrong, only to find that the only thing they could see was a giant mass.

The teenage girl, Aypero Alekseeva, had a habit of chewing her hair and even picking it up off the carpet and eating it, because that's the kind of normal behaviour that you wouldn't think to bother a psychiatrist about. The upshot of this is that a hairball weighing in at  9lbs had formed in her stomach.

Had the hairball been left in there much longer, Aypero might have ended up losing her life, but the surgeons managed to remove it just in time and she made a full recovery (and hopefully stopped snacking on her barnet).
