Whether youre watching an episode of Countdown getting made at Media City, making a Mercury Prize winning album at Blueprint Studios or watching a gig at Islington Mill, youre no longer in Manchester and it wouldnt kill you to acknowledge this. Salford is often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour and many unfamiliar with the boundaries between the two cities fail to realise that they're actually in Salford already. Media City has helped raise its profile a somewhat, but ever since Evan Davies suggested Salford should just admit defeat and call itself Manchester, proud Salfordians have been at pains to quietly point out that actually, Salford is really rather good.
