15 Celebs With Astoundingly Uncool Real Names

2. Marilyn Monroe - Norma Jean Mortensen

Without doubt the most recognisable name on this list is that of film and American national icon, Marilyn Monroe. Her name is one which was purposely designed and chosen to make her sound more like a sex symbol; a name to fit her appearance. The name has lived on long since her early death, and even found a way back into immediate pop culture when it was adopted deliberately as the first name of choice for Marilyn Manson's pseudonym, such is the power of recollection that even just her forename holds. More to the point, her name sounds iconic by itself, it immediately sounds like it belongs in the halls of fame where movies are concerned, whilst also retaining a feeling of fifties, where her career began. There have rarely been such a stark contrast between the given name and the chosen name of any famous personality than there was between Marilyn Monroe and her original title: Norma Jean Mortensen. Whilst acknowledging that she was born in the 1920s, where names which we now consider greatly old fashioned were very much in style, there can be very few polar opposites in the connotations of her names. Norma, simply put, is not a name you would associate with a sex symbol, though it is highly fitting of a munitions factory girl, as she was in her youth. It is utterly unfathomable today to imagine generations of people, and even the President of the United States being totally awestruck by the seductive beauty of a woman named Norma.
