Without doubt the most recognisable name on this list is that of film and American national icon, Marilyn Monroe. There have rarely been such a stark contrast between the given name and the chosen name of any famous personality than there was between Marilyn Monroe and her original title: Norma Jean Mortensen. Whilst acknowledging that she was born in the 1920s, where names which we now consider greatly old fashioned were very much in style, there can be very few polar opposites in the connotations of her names. Norma, simply put, is not a name you would associate with a sex symbol, though it is highly fitting of a munitions factory girl, as she was in her youth.
