6. "Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, Who Is The Fairest Of Them All?"
The actual quote: "Magic Mirror on the Wall, who is the fairest one of all?" This misquote has become so deeply embedded in the public consciousness that a recent live-action adaptation of the Snow White story boasted the title Mirror Mirror. In fact the line in the original Disney animation is "magic mirror on the wall". Which also makes the title to a classic Star Trek episode a misquote, but we'll get there in good time,..
5. "Do You Feel Lucky, Punk?"
The actual quote: "You've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?" Another one that seems to have been cut for brevity in the public imagination, Clint Eastwood's dirty cop is actually a lot more eloquent than people give him credit for. He's got a whole speech that precedes his most famous line, too!
4. "Let Them Eat Cake"
The actual quote: "Sils nont plus de pain, quils mangent de la brioche" (translated to "If they have no bread, let them eat cake!") Not only the quote, but the intention behind the quote tends to be widely misunderstood. Well, that's if you believed she said it at all. But if she did, it seems unlikely that the notably charitable and empathetic Antoinette was being facetious to the plight of starving French peasants, and was instead suggesting the upper class share their food with those less fortunate. Aw.
3. "Luke, I Am Your Father"
The actual quote: "No. I am your father." Again, one that seems to have been shortened and qualified a little for brevity's sake. Plus, y'know that Vader is German for father right? Should've seen it coming.
