15 Gruesome Torture Devices You Won't Believe Actually Existed

4. The Brazen Bull

This despicable method was designed in ancient Greece and was used to burn people to death. Victims were placed into a large brass bull that had a useful hatch on the side to put people in and remove remains. The hatch would be locked behind whoever was unlucky enough to be sentenced to death and the executioner would light a fire directly underneath the belly of the beast so that they would be slowly roasted to death. The Bull was supposed to be designed so that people's screams would be amplified so that it sounded like the bellowing of a bull. Thanks, Greece.
