The Boston marathon bombing was a harrowing attack which left 280 injured and six dead, including an eight-year-old boy. The story was huge on Twitter for quite a while, partly because the perpetrators were still at large. Boston was in chaos as police locked down the city and thousands of officers searched for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

So wasn't just a sad situation which Twitter was responding to; this was a developing story for several days, where dozens of people were on the verge of life and death and a terrorist was still roaming the streets. Sounds like the time for a food website to chime in, right? Not long after the bombing, recipe website Epicurious sent out this tweet: "In honor of Boston and New England, may we suggest: whole-grain cranberry scones!"

At least it isn't some insensitive joke or reference to the tragedy itself, but Twitter was still incredibly upset that the website would "honor" victims by promoting itself, and Epicurious responded a few hours later with, "Our food tweets this morning were, frankly, insensitive. Our deepest, sincere apologies." They then responded to every single person tweeting at them with a stock "our hearts are with Boston" statement, but at least their heart was in the right place.
