15 Problems Only People Who Work For A Pub Chain Will Understand

9. Getting Too Friendly With The Regulars

Bar staff, we know them well: the older men who come and sit right at the bar on a weekday morning and chat away with you about their lives while you're cleaning the optics and praying they won't fall on your head. It always gets a little too friendly when they start asking where you live, whether you're in a relationship, and would you like them to buy you a drink? How to be offish without being rude is a skill that only the most talented of bar staff can obtain. For waitresses it's a different matter; having regular customers to your tables is a godsend. You know their orders and their drink choices off by heart, and they'll usually tip you because you actually like them and care about whether they have a good time.
