9. "Obligatory" Gifts

"Well, your uncle got you ______ last year, so you'd better get him something nice!" Thanks mom. You know what? What's the point of all this, when it's just matching the value of gifts and ignoring the thought behind them? Just hand over a fifty, and ask for one back. It's the same basic principle. And since when were gifts obligatory? If you someone was a jerk to you all year, you should not feel obligated to buy them something nice this year, no matter what they got you last time out. Here's a suggestion: get them something stupid, an ugly Christmas sweater, or wrap a cat.
