5. The Time That Pinocchio Broke A Whole Load Of Laws
Pinocchio is unable to resist the temptations of Pleasure island, despite having such an annoying, moral conscience which sort of mirrors the wants of an adult through the actions of a child. They participate in drinking, gambling, smoking and vandalism and considering they're all children, it's pretty horrifying. But only because they're children. Whilst it may have been the creator's intention to show how bad these things are - as they all turn into donkeys - it's also promoting a lifestyle that some children won't perceive as having bad consequences because humans won't literally turn into donkeys. When you suggest something as ludicrous as that as a potential punishment for something that looks so legitimately awesome, you rob the morality concerns of any weight. Sort of like suggesting that if you murder someone, your hands will turn into fish and swim away. Awful, but who believes that? You might legitimately still turn green from drinking and smoking though.
