7. Myth - Only Amish People Are Allowed In

Another very common myth is that only Amish people can join local communities, presumably from other Amish areas and thus inbreeding is rife due to this enclosed blue blood system.

Whilst I personally have indeed seen some rather... erm, strange looking young Amish men whose features do betray a life of family love, anyone can join an Amish society. That is if they're sufficiently determined and willing to leave material goods behind and put the requisite work in. It may take local elders some convincing of such a commitment but if successful, a married couple or even a single person can join the clan.

A person intending to convert to the Amish church should have cash to buy a farm as well as some serious farming chops so it's no cakewalk to regress to Amish life.

A Welsh semi-retired television producer and actor known for low end work that astonishingly people actually watched and even garnered some awards. Originally residing in the electrically-challenged Amish areas of Pennsylvania he has written a few books (Hollywood Pants and Hollywood Horrible Hints and Terribly Fake Tips vols 1 & 2) which you can buy on amazon and all great book stores. After a brief stint in Australia he now finds himself back in the Welsh valleys of his home country noting that it hasn't changed a bit!
