7. King Henry I Succumbed To Food Poisoning After Eating Far Too Many Eels (1135)

In one of the more unusual methods of death - not just for royals, but for any human being - King Henry I died from severe food poisoning. The chronicler, Henry of Huntingdon, claims that the King ate an excessive number of lampreys - a type of eel - against the advice of his physician, and became violently ill as a result. Having struggled in bed for a week, he died on December 1, 1135, from dehydration and exhaustion brought about by the food poisoning.
