Death: 16 August 1977 The King indeed. Imagine if The King of Rock and Roll was still alive today, you sort of hope that he'd be judging on shows like the Voice and even in his death, he is still inspiring generations of new singers. His performances and his songs are legendary and he'll always be considered the true love of a lot of people's lives. Elvis set the bar so high after winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the age of 36 and he was so successful in a number of genres from rock to gospel. Unfortunately his health and his reputation deteriorated in the final years of his life as he was unable to perform and fans could barely make out the lyrics that he was slurring on stage. Elvis, the man who changed American pop culture, died in his bathroom in Graceland in 1977 after he took a cocktail of different drugs. He was found on the floor, surrounded by and covered in vomit after falling off of the toilet. If Elvis was still alive, you would probably re-mortgage your house in order to see him perform live. He was a total icon, and a sexy one at that, and the world needs more of those incredible outfits.
