The way that a lot of people view hotels is as nothing more than a means to an end. Sure, it's nice if there aren't cockroaches or weird stains on the mattress or, god forbid, poorly functioning wi-fi, but other than that, it's just a bed to sleep in at night. But it can add so much to a vacation to find a hotel that really fits in with what you're trying to accomplish. If you're staying in magical Prague, find a historical place with gorgeous architecture. If you're doing biotourism in South America, stay at one of those hotels with treehouses in the middle of the forest. In this day and age with all the options in every conceivable style and price range, there's no reason to stay at a Motel 6 unless you're just visiting in-laws. But while there are hundreds of hotels that can safely be counted upon to improve a holiday, the unbelievable places on this list are tourist destinations in and of themselves. There's something to be found for everyone, with stunning views, quirky themes, opulent surroundings, and once in a lifetime experiences. After these places, you probably won't ever want to stay in a regular hotel again.
