11. Capone Was Shot Only Once During His Lifetime... By Himself
It seems incredible to think that a gang leader like Capone avoided being shot throughout his lifetime but he almost did - except the time he accidentally fired a gun on himself, of course. After leaving the Burnham golf course in September 1928 along with playing partner Johnny Patton, Capone was getting into a car when his .45 revolver pistol discharged in his right pocket - sending a bullet wound through his legs and groin. With the bullet lodged in Capone's left leg, Patton raced to St Margaret's Hospital in Hammond and registered the injured moblord under the fake name "Geary". So worried was Capone that he would be targeted by rival gangs while he was shacked up in a hospital bed that he hired out the five rooms around him for his bodyguards to stay in.
