12. The Mobster Was Responsible For Starting Some Of The First Soup Kitchens In America During The Great Depression
Referred to regularly as a "modern-day Robin Hood", Capone aimed to improve his public image by financing Soup Kitchens throughout Chicago once the Great Depression struck in 1929. These were some of the first soup kitchens throughout the entire USA, and gained Capone a reputation as a charitable and empathetic man. He maintained his image as a gangster, however, with quotes such as the following: "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me, weak is not what you are going to remember about me."
