20 Mind-Blowing Facts About Al Capone

2. Capone Was "Prisoner No 85" In Alcatraz... But Became Ill In Prison And Was Paroled In 1932

With belief growing that Capone was receiving preferential treatment and that this was upsetting the fellow inmates in Atlanta, Capone was moved to Alcatraz in San Francisco - where he became "Prisoner No 85". Alcatraz had been specifically designed to deal with prisoners who no other prison could handle - and this meant Capone received few privileges compared to when he was at Atlanta. Instead, Capone decided to lie low so that he would get his term reduced due to good behaviour - and he was removed from Alcatraz in January 1939 before spending nine months at the Federal Correctional Institution at Terminal Island in California. Capone was then paroled on November 16, 1939.
