20. The Company Is Named "Apple" After The Fruit... Not The Beatles
Steve Jobs was visiting an apple farm in the early-1970s while he was on a "fruitarian" diet - and it was at this point that he decided to name his company after the popular fruit. Jobs said he thought the name "Apple" was: "Fun, spirited and not intimidating." The record company who helped make The Beatles a worldwide success, Apple Corp, have taken the computer company to court repeatedly over supposed trademark infringement - with the first time being in 1978. The companies finally reached an agreement over the use of "Apple" in their names in 2007, but that was after several battles in the courts. Jobs may have been a fan of The Beatles, but he claims he did not decide on the name due to his affection for the band.
