17. Colorado Is Nicknamed The "Stegosaurus State"

Although Colorado's most-common nicknames included the "Columbine State", the "Highest State", the "Mother of Rivers", "Ski Country USA" and, most-famously, the "Centennial State", it is also home to the Stegosaurus skeleton. The first-ever Stegosaurus - or "roof/covered lizard" - skeleton was discovered near Morrison, Colorado, therefore spawning the nickname.
