8. JFK Is The Only US President To Win A Purple Heart
The oldest military award still given out today, the Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the US President to those wounded or killed during active service. After spending time in a military hospital with back problems, Kennedy was given the Purple Heart - and is to date the only US President to receive the accolade. Past presidential candidates John McCain and John Kerry have also received the Purple Heart, however. Interestingly, JFK was also decorated with the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (three bronze stars), as well as the World War II Victory Medal.
