20 Problems Only Crafty People Will Understand

7. The Price Of Materials

More than one Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram post has been devoted to the cries of 'Oh for the love of God, why do the things I love cost so much?'. Okay, more than seven, at least. It's not that you're at the point of sacrificing your hobby for other pursuits - although considering whether you can somehow combine your gourmet cooking course into leftovers to survive the week, or treat your landlord to a stunning portrait in exchange for a month's rent. It's more that every craft store with a name above its door seems justified and reasonable in charging you obscene amounts of money for the materials you need in order to fuel your passion and continue to keep that crafty fire burning. You still go every week or so, though. It's like 'Breaking Bad', but with paints and yarn.

6. Your Loved Ones Seeing It As A Pastime, Not As A Passion

Your family and friends are your biggest support network, and so while they're largely supportive and considerate, there's often a time when they consider your creative outlet as a hobby, or a fun and quirky pastime, rather than as a legitimate passion and secret desired career of yours. It's not exactly infuriating, but it's pretty demeaning to keep hearing your parents or relatives introducing with the tagline, 'Oh, they do crafts, do you know!'. Which, okay, is accurate, but it makes the passion and hobby you cultivate dearly sound like something you do for ten minutes a week to kill time while waiting for the pizza delivery guy to arrive. Demeaning much?
