8. Meeting Like-Minded People

Despite our hatred and distrust for humanity, misanthropes aren€™t completely anti-social. We still desire connection with other human beings, it€™s just that most are insufferable to be around. We need other misanthropes with which we can vent our disgust with humanity together. Unfortunately we are a very small percentage of the human population, so finding fellow misanthropes is not very easy. And when meeting people requires a certain level of attraction to the idea of being around them, it becomes near impossible to make connections when you'd rather just stay away.

7. Trusting People

Even when a misanthrope manages to develop some meaningful relationships, our past experiences never allows us to let our guard down. If you expect the worst in people, how can you expect not to get hurt at some point? So in an effort to make sure that doesn't happen, or at least to lessen the impact when it does, misanthropes rarely allow themselves to trust people. Ironically this defence only helps push people away. Trust is the foundation for healthy long term friendships, yet despite knowing this, it is still the hardest thing to maintain.
